  Italian Recipes: A Basic
Italian Meal Appetizer
by Beth Scott

    Italian recipes have been popular in the United States for a long time.  We all love to go out for pizza, or to order a serving of linguine and garlic bread in an Italian restaurant.  But a lot of cooks want to know how they can make Italian style food at home.

    Here are some tips and secrets for making Italian recipes, and a recipe to start you off in the right direction.

    Essential ingredients you'll need for cooking Italian recipes are;

  • Tomatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Garlic
  • Eggplant
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Black or green olives

    And of course you should have these essential cooking tools;

  • Pizza pan
  • Boiling pot
  • Frying pan
  • Colander
  • Spatula
  • Pastry brush
  • Slotted ladle
  • Garlic presser (found at Wal-Mart, or any cooking utensil store)

    If you already have these essentials (and most cooks do), you are well on your way to making real mouth watering Italian recipes.

    You can serve the following Italian recipe to your guests or family while they await the BIG Italian meal:

Italian Appetizer

    Ingredients:

  • Sourdough bread

  • Mozzarella cheese

  • Extra virgin olive oil

  • Thin tomato slices

    1. Dip a pastry brush into the olive oil, and brush the top side of one of the slices of sourdough bread.  Then put several thin square slices of mozzarella cheese in a row on top of the bread slice, and add several thin tomato slices in a row.

    2. Oil a second slice of sourdough bread around the same size as the first, on the top side.  Then place it oiled side down, on top of the “sandwich” your making.

    3. Toast this in an oven for 5 to 10 minutes.  Until the bread is crisp, and the cheese melted.  Then cut this sandwich into bite sized pieces for a delicious meal appetizer.  You can make several sandwiches, depending on how many appetizers you’ll need.
