  Roasting and Stuffing a Turkey

With the rising prices on beef, I'm sure you have been finding it hard to serve yourself or your family the protein you need for a healthy body.

Although you may prefer the taste of beef more than turkey, the price difference makes turkey oh so tasty when you realize how much money you're saving.

If you use the right recipes you will even learn to love turkey.  Maybe not as much as you love beef, but it will deffinetely be a close second.

In fact, even if you can afford beef, you may want to try cooking with turkey meat, sometimes, for a change of pace.

  Roasting Tips For Whole Turkeys

I shouldn’t have to give you the instructions for actually roasting your  whole turkey, since the package you buy it in will doubtless do that.  But I can give you some tips for roasting it.

For one, you should wash off the whole turkey before attempting to roast it.  Then pat your whole turkey dry with paper towels before putting it in your roasting pan.  This gets rid of any bacteria that was left on the turkey during processing.

Your turkey meat will be much more tender and juicier if you stuff the turkey.  My favorite is cornbread stuffing, which is basically just the following ingredients mixed together and stuffed into the turkey.

You should never stuff the turkey the night before you cook it though, this encourages bacterial growth.  Only stuff your turkey right before baking it.

Turkey Stuffing

    Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 1 1/2 cups celery, chopped

  • 1 cup yellow onion, chopped

    1. Heat the butter in a small frying pan until melted.  Then saute the celery, and onions until soft.  Mix them in a large bowl with all of the following ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups apples, cored, chopped and unpeeled

  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley, minced

  • 3 teaspoons dried thyme

  • 1 teaspoon dried sage

  • 3/4 teaspoon salt & black pepper
    2. If you have any leftover stuffing after you stuff your turkey just bake it in a covered pan for 20 minutes on 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
